Artist in Residence at IDDIS

Anna Ihle's Social Artwork "The Typographer"
A living, ongoing artwork in the printing workshop at IDDIS

Almost a year ago, artist Anna Ihle began spending time in the printing workshop on the second floor of IDDIS Norwegian Museum of Printing. Her time in the workshop forms part of the social artwork The Typographer, in which she takes on the role of a trainee typographer. Working alongside former printing professionals from the Friends of the Norwegian Museum of Printing, she is learning hand typesetting with movable type, as well as about a working life from a different era.

Alongside the technical work, she listens to anecdotes about working life in another time and acquires an understanding of the unique significance of the typographers’ profession from a historical perspective. Polish writer and curator Zofia Małysa-Janczy is following the project through texts accompanying the type that Anna Ihle sets.

In February 2027, documentation of the artwork will be presented in an exhibition at IDDIS.
