Christian Bjelland built Norway’s largest canning company, employing more than 2,000 people and selling products around the world.

Christian Bjelland was one of Norway’s best-known figures, and his story has been told countless times. From 1909, his life story was even included in Norwegian school textbooks. The company itself promoted the founder’s story through its sales efforts, advertisements, catalogues, and other marketing materials.

But how much of this is true, and how much is myth?

Erik Hennum-Bergsagel, Curator at the Norwegian Canning Museum, explores the life of Christian Bjelland and the company that bore his name.
