The Norwegian Printing Museum’s collection consists of photographs, archival material, printed matter, objects, machines and tools that reflect the history of printing and the printing industry during the period 1850 – 1980. Our collection stems mainly from Stavanger and the surrounding region, but there are also materials from other parts of Norway.

The most substantial part of the collection is from lithographic printers, cliché producers, tin-can printers, newspapers, book printers, bookbinders and bespoke printers, and much of the material is from about 1900 to 1960.

In 2016, the collection contained about 14,500 objects, 340 photographs, 1,5 shelf-meters of historical archival material and 6 films/sound-recordings. Of these, 8,572 objects, 240 photographs and 3 films/sound-recordings are registered in the museum database Primus. Approximately half of all the objects are kept in a regional depot, while the rest are in temporary storage in expectation of the new museum building’s completion.
